Initial Consultation / Lessons:
Where will the courses/sessions be held?
All courses are taught online via Zoom.
What do you do in the initial consultation?
Firstly, the coach will assess your English level through a casual and relaxed conversation. We will get to know each other, and the coach will listen to your needs and current situation, so that we can start elaborating a study plan. He will also answer any questions you might have regarding our services.
Does the initial consultation cost anything?
No. The initial consultation is free of cost.
How long does the initial consultation take?
It takes between 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the topics being discussed.
Who will coach me?
The company’s CEO, Rafael Bolognini, will coach you directly.
What materials do you use?
It depends on the student’s level, needs, and circumstances. Both the student and the coach will decide on the materials during the “Design Session” before the program starts. They may choose to use a textbook plus other materials provided by the coach. Some students decide to bring their own materials and situations to the sessions, where the coach can help them solve daily problems from work and/or their social lives.
Are there any group sessions?
Upon request, students may choose to have sessions with their work colleagues or friends for further interaction with others. Nonetheless, regular sessions are held one-on-one.
How will I know if I have progressed?
Besides the ongoing feedback students receive from the coach, level checks are scheduled every 2 months for students to get updated on their progress. These level checks are included in the price of programs. In addition, students may decide to take a Versant test (paid separately) to have an official progress report that could be shown to an employer, for instance. You can be sure that your coach will update you on all your improvements and any deficiencies on a regular basis.

What is the difference between MaxUP and other traditional English schools?
We provide premium one-on-one coaching services tailored to each individual student’s needs and circumstances, rather than one-size-fits-all lessons that other companies provide. All sessions and interactions are done with the CEO, Rafael Bolognini, instead of talking to several consultants and teachers, who are often overworked and unmotivated. This ensures privacy and helps you build trust in your sessions that would not have in other companies. In addition, we provide ongoing communication with the coach, along with feedback, and study plans according to your schedule. We pride ourselves in teaching students how to be independent thinkers and students, regardless of their time at MaxUP.
Am I required to study 3 hours per day, like in many companies?
No. Each student will receive a weekly study plan based on his/her needs and schedule. Few, if any, people can take the time to study for 3 hours per day without feeling exhausted. Our focus is not on quantity, but rather on quality. Besides, each student will need different amounts of study time – no student gets the same schedule, sessions, or contents.
I already have a high English level. How can your coaching services benefit me?
Upon choosing the right program for you, we will focus on what you need to take your English to the next level. This may be by focusing on your pronunciation plus pacing, vocabulary plus writing, or even your overall fluency in addition to how you express yourself. As with any language, it is important to continue building on what you already know to get you to the next level. Our services will provide you not only with the everyday practice you need, but also with the resources to thrive in a globalized world.
Programs:
How many sessions are there and how long is each of them?
Each program includes 3 sessions of 30 minutes each per week, a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes of one-on-one interaction with the coach. Additional sessions may be arranged too, if needed.
How long are the programs?
Each program is 3, 6, and 12 months long with the possibility to extend each of them.
Who is the corporate program ideal for?
Our corporate program is ideal for current and prospective corporate/executive workers and company leaders who desire to take their careers and companies to the next level of interaction and knowledge in a globalized world. Whether you are already in an English-speaking environment or aiming to be in one, we will provide you with all the resources for successful presentations, negotiations, meetings, and dealings with coworkers and customers all over the world.
Who is the academic program ideal for?
Our academic program is tailored to current and prospective university students of Japanese and foreign universities, particularly in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. We provide resources for both entering university, including taking the TOEFL and IELTS, and for running a successful academic life while there. We provide services for writing academic essays and papers; interacting with foreign students in English; and support for your academic life in an English-speaking country.
Who is the daily conversation program for?
Our daily conversation program is perfect for anybody who wishes to make the most of their daily interactions in English with colleagues, customers, and friends. We focus on situations such as international trips for sightseeing, conferences, and meetings; daily vocabulary/expressions; grammar review/corrections; and daily interactions in English both in Japan and abroad. Each session will be tailored to your conditions and circumstances at work and life, and you will not be learning general English.
Are your programs OK for beginners?
While most students have some knowledge of the English language, beginners are welcomed to start their program with us. All sessions will be held in English and beginners are encouraged to bring prepared questions and answers to each lesson, until they have enough confidence to speak without prior preparation. Rest assured that you will get all the necessary attention to thrive, even if you are a beginner.
What if I would like to take lessons only on pronunciation?
We do offer pronunciation-focused sessions and we have done so in the past very successfully. Even though most students focus on a variety of skills, if your goal is primarily your pronunciation, we may arrange that. We suggest you contact MaxUP for further information on additional plans and packages.
Do I need to keep a study diary or send in my studying times?
No. We do suggest that you keep a review of your studies as well as notes, but there is no need to send them in to the coach. We see that as ineffective to your progress and trust that you will take the time to make your investment worthwhile.
Do you provide any certificates?
Upon completing your program and taking at least 80% of your sessions, you will receive a certificate of completion from our program with your name, level, and program, mailed in to you.
If I need to cancel a session, will I have a make-up?
Sessions canceled will not get a make-up. We will simply discuss the topics from your missed session in the next one.
May I record the sessions?
Upon request, it is possible to record some sessions for review. Nonetheless, the coach will type any suggestions, corrections, and tips on the Zoom chat for your reviewing later and may be contacted if any questions come up later.

May I contact the school in Japanese?
Our focus is on getting students to speak English from the first interaction with the coach, even if loosely translated. This is to get students used to an English environment, as if they were in another country or already in the situation where they speak English. The coach understands that your English may be difficult at this time, but we kindly ask that you try your best to use what you already know. Upon request, there may be instances where you may speak with a staff in Japanese.
May I contact the coach outside of sessions?
Absolutely. The coach will provide you with his contact for you to exchange questions, audios, and receive advice. In addition, the coach will contact you on a weekly basis with study plans, materials, and tips for improving.
Costs/Refund:
If I cancel the course, will I be refunded?
If you are not 100% satisfied with your sessions or feel you have not improved at all, please consult your coach for a refund.
What are the payment methods?
You may choose to pay via bank transfer or credit card. Please, consult the company for further details.
Do I need to pay any entrance fees?
No. We do not charge anything other than the program itself or additional sessions or tests.
